About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Data Science and the Academic Director of Cloud Computing at the School of IT, Deakin University. I am also a co-director of the Smart Sensing, Coding, and Analytics Lab.
I received my PhD from the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University (advised by Oliver Schulte), and I received my Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Research

My research focuses on improving the reliability of machine learning models to benefit the broader community. Recognising that data are only noisy, partial, and biased representations of reality, we aim to create machine learning models faithful to the application domain and robust in the prediction. To this end, we tackle the research challenges in model uncertainty and generalisation via geometric and topological methods, particularly from the lens of dynamical systems. On the application side, we work primarily on machine learning problems from our collaborators in healthcare and cyber security.
